Please feel free to ask for support if needed to navigate this task.
If you have OUT OF NETWORK benefits, please understand that your insurance company may only pay a portion of your session fees and you would be responsible for the remaining balance. Again, please ensure you are aware of the specific guidelines that your insurance company sets forth for these benefits.

Self Pay Information
So you may be thinking: "But I have insurance coverage, why not use it?" This is a great question. There are numerous reasons a person who has insurance may opt for paying out of pocket. Some of the reasons include having the ability to have more choices and flexibility in who you see, how often you meet, and why you may have chosen to seek out therapy.
What are the benefits of choosing to pay out-of-pocket for therapy?
1) Freedom from the challenges of an insurance company. When you have made up your mind to see a therapist, you may spend hours getting a referral from your doctor; calling the insurance company to find a provider; getting authorization numbers and letters; figuring out and paying copays; calling the insurance company to check on problems, which can often lead to you feeling defeated and maybe changing your mind about going. The choice to not utilize your insurance gives you the freedom to find the therapist you would like to see and work with, without any barriers.
2) More choice in the provider you wish to see. Often when people call around looking for a therapist who takes their insurance, they may find the perfect provider (or are referred to a specific therapist by someone they trust), only to find out that the therapist does not accept their insurance. There may be some awesome therapists that are not on your insurance panel and even some that others do not participate with any insurance companies . Choosing to pay out-of-pocket gives you more freedom to see the provider you think is the best fit for you and your goals.
3) Ability to control how often you attend sessions. Many insurance companies don’t cover sessions more than once per week, or double sessions, phone sessions, group therapy, workshops, and other types of treatment that might be especially helpful to you. Paying out-of-pocket means that you can seek these other types of treatment when you and your therapist mutually agree on appropriate treatment modalities.
4) Liberty to continue in therapy longer than your benefits may allow to explore other issues that may not be covered by insurance. Many insurance companies allow only a specific number of sessions per year, which may not be enough to address the concerns that brought you to therapy to begin with. Insurance companies reserve the right to manage how often and how long you can use your benefits, and may decide that you cannot use your full number of sessions for your identified problems. If you choose the self-pay option for therapy, you will collaborate with your therapist to figure out how long you should stay in therapy and what issues you want to work on.
If you choose to self-pay for sessions, payment is due at the time of service and can be paid via cash, credit card, or check payable to Positive Mind Counseling, LLC.
We also can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance afterwards for potential reimbursement for services. If you are planning to file for possible reimbursement, you may wish to check with your insurance company ahead of time to see what they will cover for an out-of-network provider.
